The key to success in competitive cycling is a good P2W ratio. Currently my FTP power is 281 watts and my weight is 108 kg which leaves me at 2.6w/kg. My goal is to get the ratio up to 3 w/kg. So how do I do this.
Step 1. Increase the FTP. At my current weight I would need to get my FTP up to 325 watts. Ideally this power will come but it takes time to add 40 + watts to your FTP and I just had a test at 281 so not likely anytime soon.
Step 2. Lose weight. Ever wonder why cyclists are so lean. Thats right. Stay lean and maintain good power and you'll get a good P2W ratio number. Right now Sara and I maintain a good diet. But I fail when it comes down to the goodies. Candies are my weakness. Ice cream, cookies, pastries and any other sweet are a weakness. I've never been able to do things in moderation so I choose to ask Sara to not keep them at home. Its not working. I find myself snacking on candy all the time. 150-200 calories here or there add up and its the little battles that win or lose the war.
I've lost 7 kg's since Christmas and I'm shooting for 10 more before years end.
Time to buckle down.
